Your neighbors are watching and waiting with baited breathe! (And don’t worry - we’ll take care of Poppy Don!)

P.S. When I heard the news, my first thought was, “Ahhh…of course! Roland is so thoughtful he waited and waited just to give mommy the best birthday present EVER!”

i have this tendency to feel the need to bake when a new member of your family is about to arrive, perhaps because such an occasion and such a family call for something wonderful and sweet. tonight, in honor of carol and roland, double decker brownies, complete with candles and good wishes! happy birthdays!

3:07 pm UPDATE #1
Carol is having regular contractions and everything looks great. Poppy is hanging out at our place with the kids and having a blast. We’re moving to the birthing room in a couple of minutes. We’ll update ASAP.

By the way, Happy Birthday, Carol!

(more updates below…)

Carol in hospital

5:10 pm UPDATE #2
We’re now in the birthing room. Carol is getting an antibiotic IV, but just as a precaution. There’s no signs of any problems. It took them four tries to find a vein, yipes! I gave her a blessing and it felt great. Her contractions have slowed slightly (every 4 minutes instead of every 2), but they are getting stronger. Roland is still moving like crazy and that’s a great sign.

I think we’re going to go for another stroll.

6:53 pm UPDATE #3
The contractions are now only three minutes apart, but no broken water. The first round of antibiotics are in and the second is being delivered. If Carol’s water hasn’t broken by the time the second round is done, they’ll break it for her and get it going. We really want to have this baby today. Carol said,

“If we have Roland on my birthday, I can cross it off my list. Have baby, check!

Here’s our view from the birthing room. We’re off for another few laps around the building.

The View

7:54 pm UPDATE #4
We’re down to two minutes apart and getting stronger. We’ve been walking laps around the third floor. We met Dr. Johnson who will be delivering Roland. He’s young and reminds of of Todd, which is great. Here’s the official plan: At 8:30, they will start the second IV drip and break Carol’s water. After that, labor should come quickly.

The contractions are getting much, much stronger now. You guys would be so proud of Carol. She is the toughest person I know. When the contraction starts, she’ll say, “Just keep walking, just keep walking…”

We’re back in the room now and have to stay here. That means we’re stuck watching celebrity gossip shows. Guh. No wonder we got rid of our TV.

9:02 pm UPDATE #5
This will be the last update, guys. Carol’s water is broken and the contractions are picking up fast. Carol just told Roland, “I’m evicting you, get out!”

I’m going to hold her hand now.
