I am so glad that you got to imbue this surprise on Ethan. He was truly like a kid in a candy shoppe. My favorite quote of that night was when Ethan still didn’t know who was headlining at the Death Cab concert and saw Mates of State setting up, “If they’re opening, where in the world are we?1?!?!”

I am so glad that I got to share in this surprise and amazing weekend. I’m glad you are my friends.

Ethan just told me there were 3,060 people at the modest mouse show. And 50% of them were squishing us. YAY for fun!

waiting for MAtes of State to start

I have been getting texts and calls all morning from everyone asking how our weekend was. If you dont know what I am talking about - here is a quick run-through cause there is another short film to follow.

So quickly, I whisked Ethan away for a weekend alone. Since we got pregnant with Elliott so soon, this literally is the first time away with no children in or out of belly. It was so awesome. And the best part? Ethan had noooo idea about any of it. If you know me, you know how hard it is for me to keep surprises. OH MY GOSH!! I have been DYEING the last few months! Especially as Ethan was updateing so much with music. I bought tickets for us to see Mates of State and Decemberists open for Death Cab for Cutie one night and then the Breeders and the National opened for Modest Mouse sunday night. And Ethan didn’t know about any of it till we were at the amphitheater. More details about that later.  Seriously the best surprise I have ever pulled off. I’m trying to keep this quick cause I have three kids sleeping and should be waking up here pretty soon. So heres only a couple pictures….

Thats Ben Gibbord of Death Cab For Cutie. AKA My boyfriend. When I told Ethan he was my celebrity crush, he smiled, nodded and said - “Ok, I can compete with that” I love that. He thinks he has competition. I must have him totally snowballed. Oh and yes, we were THAT close. That is not zoomed at all. WE were about 8 people from the front.

See? (still Death Cab) And boy howdy we were packed in - I have never had so much fun sniffing a strangers head.

and heres one from Sunday’s show….

Ethan took this while the Breeders were getting set up. Wait, You didnt quite catch that? Oh well, yes, we ARE actually that close. Yeah. If you get there early enough, you aren’t only first in line (hahaha) but also get to be in the front row. And when you are, you guard that spot with you elbows, knees and anything else jab-able. cause it is worth it. I heard two girls behind us say “Ahhh CRAP! I gotta pee!” and the other girl said “I would rather piss my pants than loose my spot” A little part of me totally agreed. hahaha. I know, I got a little star-struck. But seriously, I have been waiting 5+ years to see modest mouse play. And Ethan?? Even longer. 10 YEARS!! Seriously! So we werent going anywhere. And it paid off. Heres a picture of The National…

The singer totally reminded me of my brother Eric. they are sooo good live. Oh and yeah - that picture isnt zoomed in at all either. Again Front row. At one point Ethan poured wine for the lead singer who passed his bottle to the guy behind us cause he felt sad for us that we didnt get any prizes like the peole in the back.  Obviously, he didnt think that our prize was being that close.

Didnt get enough? Heres one more for you:

Isn’t this a great shot? Good job Ethan. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any pictures of Modest Mouse because I am incredibly bright and forgot to put the camera battery on the charger after saturday nights show. Three cheers for me! But we did get some video that will be in the video from Ethan. But this is all the people behind us for the end of the National. SOOOOO many people.

It was such an amazing weekend. The kind of weekend that makes up for spending the last three years in North Idaho. Its also the kind of weekend that makes me understand why groupies do what they do. I know I am not the  only person to say that music is a drug and shows are an addiction.

So whos next?
