This entry is so funny. It’s so sad and so true. I miss Joaquin. I guess I’ll just have to watch Gladiator again to remind myself of days gone by.

I am happy to see that someone else did the same research I did! Brett and I watched him on Letterman, excited to see one of our favorite actors, and were totally perplexed by his behavior. Maybe it’s an act? I dunno. We will always have the Gladiator/Walk the Line/Signs years, though.
I love you even more now after this blog.

Me again. I just thought – maybe it is all a ruse? Maybe this is his ultimate acting experience by creating this bizarre persona, having Casey Affleck film it for some kind of social satire, and then he will return to normal?

    I’m hopeful. Sort of.

I thought this might be an Andy Kaufman-esque attempt at living comedy, but now I’m not sure. I mean, Casey Affleck must have told him, “Dude. You have at least 4 problems and two of them are your hair.” That’s what friends do. Right?

Even if it is a bizarre joke, it’s not funny or entertaining. And I like Kaufman humor. This is just… broken.

I’m starting to think it’s some sort of social experiment, ala Britney Spears and her very public breakdown. Maybe he’s trying to explore the relationship between media scrutiny (along with media attention) and celebrity mental health. They say that no news is bad news when you’re a celebrity. Right now he is more famous than he has been since Walk the Line. If his point is to document the media’s obsession with watching a star go off the deep end, then he’s succeeding. If, however, he really is going nuts, then the media is failing.

hahahahaha – i was just coming to the computer to write the exact thing you just wrote Kennedy!
plus, if he really is “layin down tracks” why the lack of information? So too am thinking this is a social experiment. I laughed when I saw your comment Kennedy cause you took the words right out of my fingertips.

And I agree with Ethan too

Having just watched him in Parenthood, I find all this to be a little freaky weird. The thing is, I think really super creative people are little crazy anyway. They have all this energy inside them with a myriad of ways to release it, is it any wonder they might try different ways to explore their talent. But bottom line, I agree with Ethan and Carol and Kennedy.

This is Joaquin Phoenix.

This is Joaquin Phoenix on drugs.
(Granted, I would probably be more likey to hang out with guys who look like this vs the earlier.)

I bought this:

But I will not buy this:

And I like Hip Hop!

I just want to know… who the heck does he hang out with now? Either his friends have beer goggles drug ears on or he is just one very strong willed person to keep trying at this. Maybe his friends are mean. Maybe he doesn’t have any friends. Maybe he’s all alone with his drugs and “manhood dreams” of being a hip hop legend. Wow this is getting sadder and sadder. I am not sure if I can keep on with this entry without curling up into a pitty ball for him.

Yes I can. Hes gone. He wont mind if I make an example out of him. In a perfect Brady Bunch scene: “Now son, you dont wanna end up like Joaquin’s mid-life crisis, do you? No, I didnt think so. So lets just flush that lil dubby (yes I had to look up how to spell that) down the toilet like a good young man. If you dont, you’ll end up with an IV containing a plethora of drugs, and no sense of reality or humor. It all starts with bushy beards and dark glasses kids. Well, that and drugs.”

I have this theory that everyone in Hollywood hangs out with a drug dealer. 1 out of every 3 people on purpose (accessibility at all times after all). The others hang out with drug dealers cause they dont know they are drug dealers or cause they just like the guy. I think drugs are pretty casual in Hollywood. Whats my point you may be asking? Its as if Joaquin stopped casually hanging out with a drug dealer and is now the soul reason people make drugs. Or lets give him the benefit of the doubt here. Hes been acting for ever, he knows hes good at it, and wants to try something new… maybe he sucks at rapping, but he would be great at…. indie/folk or maybe he should play with his beats for a while and add his poetry, but just dont rap. Please. Or hop around like a 30 something white guy whos spent his life in a cubicle. Plus he’d be better if he showered. And got rid of the pigeon’s nest on the back of his head. Why has he allowed himself to become the new train wreck in hollywood? I know I am being pretty harsh, what do you think? You gonna get his stuff?

**Please, there is no need in pointing out how much time I have wasted while making this entry. I am aware. And a little ashamed.
